Post Good Starter pack for a vertical plotter ?

Hi everybody !
I really want to try to make an XY plotter. Am a noob and everything is new for me.
So please, can you tell me if this can be a good starter pack and does everything will be ok ?
I saw you guys using a smaller motor than the one in this link, is there a reason or this one will work well ?
Also I need a power supply 12V but how many amper I need for these model ? 1A , 2A ?

Thanks all !!
Am very excited, am an artist, I use to draw a lot, and I'd like to make a kind of collaboration between me and a robot. I'll tell you more later.

Hi there, looks like a decent wee kit. I can't tell from the listing what kind of motors they are though, it says simply 4401.

If that 4401 indicates nema-17hs4401 like these https://www.cytron.io/p-nema-17hs4401-bipolar-stepper-motor then they're 1.7A each, which means that your power supply would need to supply 4x 1.7A at full power. In reality that would be if you're running four motors simultaneously - which never really happens.

A polargraph-like machine only needs two motors, and the load is small, which is why the motors you'll usually see with polargraphs can be smaller.

An XY machine like you want to make will require more power generally but still usually only two steppers at a time. A "proper" CNC machine or a 3D printer will usually require three or four motors.

For two motors, I'd aim for at least a 2 amp supply and maybe more, but it really depends on what you intend to do with it.

You'll probably be better off looking up more general-purpose drawbot forums, that are focussed on XY platforms like the axidraw. The drawingbots discord channel is a really good place to start: https://discord.gg/fW37yC

Hey thanks for the fast reply !
Sorry, I mistaken , I don't want to build an XY but a vertical plotter actually.
So can I'll stay here on this forum if it's the good place ?
About motors, I've made some research in comment section from users, and yes , it seems it's 17hs4401s, probably clones of Neyma's ?
There's 4 motors, I'll used 2 (in case some burn, I still got 2).

I'd like to do something like this, more or less.

And then learning to code to trying to make my own pattern (yeah I know , it's pretentious since I know nothing about all of this 😉 But it's my goal).

Thanks a lot for the discord link, it's a mine of resources and algorythms !
