I have a shiny new PolargraphSD v3.1 basic unit.

When a drawing ends in the middle of the night (or when I am not in attendance) I don't really want to Gondola crashing to the hard concrete gallery floor.

I assume that the only way to fix this is to set automaticPowerDown = false
and recompile the firmware and upload.

If there is an easier option I'd love to know about it 🙂

Correct, there is no feature to toggle powerdown off or on, you'll need to recompile.

There's no reason why your gondola should come crashing down though - it should sit in the middle somewhere when the motors aren't energised? You might have a different setup though, without counterweights. In that case, don't forget that you can draw to a safe place as the last command. When I did the big giant drawing that had no counterweights (just spools), then I set the home point right on the floor. I'd finish off the drawing with a "return to home".

thanks, Sandy - your statement about the gondola finding the middle is, now so obvious, and highlights the fact that I have never had heavy enough counterweights. This seems like a much easier solution than getting my head around the firmware compilation 🙂
